In Gastroesophageal Reflux (GERD) or gastric hernia, acid or food
residues in the stomach come back to the esophagus and cause irritation.
In 9% of the patients, there are complaints of burning in the back of
the chest, hoarseness (78%), asthma (82%), chest pain that can mimic a
heart attack (50%) and bitter water in the mouth (1).
